Organized in 1914, USPS is a non-governmental, non-profit, educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable by teaching classes in seamanship, navigation and related subjects. Our members are boating families who contribute to their communities by promoting safe boating through education. We enjoy participating with our fellow members on the water and in the classroom.  USPS is America's boating club, with over 40,000 members organized into 450 squadrons across the country, Japan, and Puerto Rico. USPS is America's largest non-profit boating organization and has been honored by three US presidents for its civic contributions. Our members conduct public boating safety classes and vessel safety checks, as well as enjoying a wide variety of educational classes, and social and boating activities. USPS District 17

The USPS is organized into 33 regional districts.  District 17 serves the inland areas of Tennessee, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.  Thirteen squadrons comprise District 17 with a wide variety of boating and sailing adventures, ranging from the massive and beautiful rivers and reservoirs of the Tennessee Valley to peaceful mountain lakes, whitewater rapids to the mighty Mississippi.  Come and join us for Southern hospitality and boating fun.

Our district represents over 1000 enthusiastic and friendly boaters.  The objective of the district organization is to help our squadrons by providing resources, training, ideas, and facilities. The District bridge is made up of volunteers elected from members of the squadrons. They include the District Commander, five Lieutenant Commanders and many committee volunteers from within the squadrons. As leaders of this level they support, promote, and enhance the functions at the squadron level. They act as the facilitators at meetings of the district and its squadrons. We come together at conferences and council meetings several times each year to exchange boating ideas, stories, and suggestions, to plan joint boating activities and rendezvous, to address common problems, and to socialize with our boating friends.
